Bianco di Custoza

Bianco di Custoza Basel, Switzerland
I had a few minutes to kill while in Marktplatz the other day so I popped into Globus to have a walk through their fancy food market. This store is always a 'sure bet' in terms of the eye candy. With each visit I find myself Ohhhing and Ahhhing over their gorgeous prepared foods, unique and colorful fruits and vegetables and ability to make a simple pasta display appear as a work of art.

This particular visit I found myself at the checkout counter with a favorite house-labeled Rot Curry Sauce (FYI, this is entitled to an entirely separate post—I highly recommend it—a bit of a splurge, but completely worth it for a quick, special meal) and a partial house-labeled (Grands Vins Globus & Plozza Vini Brusio, GR) white wine.

While I knew the curry sauce would be a hit, I couldn't wait to get home and taste the wine, the wine! I was immediately drawn to the bottle presentation, as I'm about as visual a person as it gets. The twine, the yellow wax, the handwritten label—simply put, it had me at hello.

Now on to the specifics: 2008 Bianco di Custoza. I am nowhere near a wine buff here, so I'll just roll off a few words that I feel fit this gem: light, semi-dry—because I sense a tiny hint of sweetness, if that's possible with a dry wine; spicy. I think the wine paired very well with the brown rice and rot curry; however, I have a feeling it would be delicious served with appetizers or a simple light olive oil based pasta dish.

Ah, to be able to walk to a fancy food market... that, in itself, would be a sweet pleasure!
